About this project

This project come to life in the late 2004, when Neuros Audio LLC, the company that designs and sells the Neuros digital music player, decided to finally release the firmware powering their line of products as open source software.

We don't have any formal organizational structure, at the moment, or even the concept of being "officially" a member of this group. The project exists mainly as a central point of aggregation for the community, a gathering place to make it easier for developers to share ideas and knowledge, and for users to suggest new features and enhancements or find support.

Think of us as a crowded plaza full of workshops with a marketplace and a soapbox in the middle, and you will get the idea.
We don't have "official releases" of firmware binaries, or a collective roadmap for the open-source firmware. Any developer can download the source code and experiment with it: the workshops.
Then each one of them release their version to the public by submitting the file to the Wiki in the Download area (or collaborate with another developer by merging their changes togheter and making a common release): the marketplace.
Developers and users come togheter, discuss and exchange ideas on this site, in IRC or in the mailing list: the soapbox.

Arguably this rather anarchic form of organization is not the best way to bring a project forward. Or maybe it is.
At the moment no one seems particularly eager to impose a more tight organizational structure upon this project.
It might be because of the inextinguishable flame of freedom burning deep inside our souls, driving us to reject the chains of authority. Or most probably because we're just a bunch of lazy hackers without even the most basic managerial skills.
Whatever the reason, that's the way it currently is. Maybe some kind of organization will spontaneously emerge, maybe it will just work fine this way, maybe everything will just crash down and burn. Time will tell.

But by all means, if you believe you have the necessary skills, time, willpower and you have devised a plan to change our situation you're welcome to come and discuss it with us in IRC or on the mailing list, or by writing it in a document in this Wiki and then letting us know (see our page about contributing for more info).
