GarBage branch CHANGELOG:

  • Link to branch on CVS
The latest and also older releases are available on CVS.
  • GarBage page on this Wiki
  • You can discuss on this branch using GarBageDiscussion
  • Changelog by features, bugfixes, and known bugs: GarBageChangeSummary
  • New binary builds of the firmware will be provided only when the code, or this Wiki, gets updated at least 5 times by external contributors.
  • See HowtoCompile for details on how to build your own firmware.
  • See GarBageDiscussion for details on some bugs/enhancements.
  • There's a lot of discussion going on in the #neuros channel on FreeNode IRC Network, and (mostly) friendly people (often) available to help you.
  • ALWAYS do a NAND FORMAT (Boot with 1+5+PLAY to start Diagnostics and follow the menus) when upgrading your firmware before reporting any bug/error.
  • ALWAYS check any bug/error with an official firmware before reporting them to us. Also, make sure you check out Bugzilla and make sure your bug/error is not covered there already. If the bug/error applies ONLY to the GarBageBranch DO NOT file a report on Bugzilla, and use the GarBageDiscussion topic on this wiki.

Version 2.26.1.7.garbage

Sat Dec 11 00:53:09 2004 UTC

Download link:
woid.hex

(Link was pointing to .1.6 - PhilSalkie)

What's new:

  • Updated makefile and the whole build process. Read the updated HowtoCompile topic.
  • Scrollwrap on menus while fast scrolling is now optional.
  • BACK does not longer stop a recording, use the HiSi button.
  • All animations killed (autosync, synchronization, HiSi, ...)
  • Reworked database queueing and navigation. It works consistently for leaf nodes (tracks) and their inmediate parents, no matter how deep they are (useful for the SoruneSyncManager multi organizational menus). For all other parent entries it behaves randomly. There's still a lot of work to do here. Maybe i could put a switch here to choose between the new and the old behaviour in the meantime.
  • Car mode (enabled through the Xtra gear menu). It turns the Neuros off when it stops getting power from the car adapter. So, in car mode, and you turn off your car, the Neuros will turn off too.

Known bugs:

  • While on the small backpack, the FM Radio interface takes a few seconds to come up the first time it is activated.
You should wait patiently. It was an old bug documented now.
  • Backlight turns off due to a keypress timeout even if the power cord is plugged and it is set to on. It was and old bug documented now.
  • (Use an older release for recording. This build has recording troubles and will not automatically add recordings to DB. - SamuelReed)
  • Accessing the Car Mode setting under the Xtra Gear menu could lock up your unit. If that happens, please reset your Neuros to Default Settings.

Version 2.26.1.6.garbage

Wed Oct 20 21:30:09 2004 UTC

Download link: File size: MD5SUM of compressed file:

What's new:

  • Fixed power detection problems with older units. (Thanks to ChristopherHarrington)
  • Fixed normal recordings won't go far than 1 second.
  • Battery charging animation can be disabled by holding the BACK button. (Thanks to ChristopherHarrington)
  • Fixed scrolling issue on Xi menus of database items. Side effect, the scrolling on those Xi menus is now more ergonomic! (Thanks to BernardCafarelli)
  • PLAY button now accepts message boxes also.

Known bugs:

  • The unit doesn't seem to power back on until the power plug is removed if the charging animation is killed.
  • (I have been unable to sync with my USB 1.1 NeurosHD? with this build - JoshMalone)

Version 2.26.1.5.garbage

Mon Oct 18 21:20:32 2004 UTC

Download link:
woid.hex

What's new:

  • Bugzilla #81 (Timed recording)
Hold the HiSi button to start a timed recording.
The timer starts at 30 minutes, you can increase/decrease it using NEXT and PREV.
Timed recordings starts paused by default. Adjust your timer, then press play to start recording.
The timer can also be modified while recording, and you can stop the recording at any time.
  • All the union UI code moved from SARAM0_3_SHARED to SRAM3 (... damn stupid 34 bytes exceeded).
  • Applied french patch from BernardCafarelli.

Known bugs:

  • USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports may be disabled with controller attached.
    • Work Around:
      1. Unplug Neuros power cord.
      2. Remove Neuros controller from hard drive back pack (HDBP).
      3. Plug Neuros power cord into HDBP.
      4. Connect to PC via USB 2.0 port on HDBP.
      5. Access as USB Mass Storage Device as normal (in Windows). Replace woid.hex with different version if desired. Neuros Data Base Manager (NDBM) works normally.
      6. a. Eject (or unmount) device in OS; b. Disconnect cable and power cord from HDBP.
      7. Re-connect controller to HDBP. Unit should operate normally including firmware updating.

Version 2.26.1.4.garbage

Sat Oct 16 20:54:43 2004 UTC

What's new:

  • Bugzilla #213 (First 15 seconds not presettable)
You can preset any point if the track is paused.
If not, the preset will be applied to the start of the track.
  • Press rewind on the first 5 seconds of a song to go to the previous one (if not paused).
  • Tri-state MyFi. On, Off, and Auto-detect choices.
  • Ogg skipping problem issues. (thanks to Darren Smith)
A skip when you go from the end of cache to the beginning was erradicated.

  • Relocated diagnosis template to PFLASH1

Version 2.26.1.1.garbage

Mon Oct 11 17:01:03 2004 UTC

Download link:
woid.hex

What's new:

  • The backpack swap bug is not longer noticed.
  • The unit will poweroff if auto-off is enabled while paused.
  • You can now plug the USB cable while playing and the music won't stop.
That doesn't mean you can transfer files to it while playing (by now).
  • Lowered DSP CLOCK settings on some states. Longer battery time.
  • Holding BACK or SELECT on the MyFi channel Xi Menu takes you to the lower/upper limit of REAL FM band.
  • Bugzilla #126 (It's "Ogg", not "OGG").
The font used for replacement is kinda ugly, so maybe i will come back to this later.
  • Bugzilla #297 (Repeated switching between MyFi/headphones causes lockup).
  • Bugzilla #166 (MyFi and headphones at the same time).
Well... kinda. The headphones level is pretty low. Maybe in a future i'll find a way to make it better
  • Bugzilla #293 (One-Click Recording (HiSi button)).
This was fixed on 2.23.0.6 actually. I forgot to reflect it on the CHANGELOG.
  • Bugzilla #62 (Date / Time format preferences).
In a loosy manner. The day time is now shown in 24h mode.
  • Bugzilla #244 (LCD Scrolling).
This was fixed on 2.25.0.3 actually. Forgot to include Bugzilla reference here.
  • Bugzilla #140 (Keylock does not prevent powering on Neuros with play/pause key while disconnected from external power).
    Works for me.
  • Bugzilla #214 (Shutdown window lock). Works for me.
  • Bugzilla #232 (Path to Error 048C). Works for me.
  • Bugzilla #303 (Initial delay too long when scrolling).
Key hold time was ~1.6 secs, overall lowered to ~1 sec., and to ~500ms for UP and DOWN.

Known Bugs:

  • If you play a file, plug the USB cable and then stop playing, the USB cable won't be recognized.
Just replug it again. Maybe later i'll queue the plug event and broadcast it on playback stop.
  • Add to MyMix is broken. Hangs 90% of the time.
  • Move items on queue is broken. Hangs 90% of the time.

Version 2.26.1.0.garbage

Sun Oct 10 21:33:38 2004 UTC

Download link:
woid.hex

What's new:

  • Fixed backlight not turning off on start.
  • Major reestructuration of the code.
Joined related code together. Still much to do on this matter.
I know i'm probably breaking a lot of backwards and future compatibility with DI releases, but hell.. i was going crazy searching on 50 files for FAT related code... and so on...
  • Choice of 100kHz or 200kHz on MyFi and FM granularity on XTRA menu.
  • Begin working on extra presets (up to 25).
NAND Parameters changed, it's better to format it after updating.
Probably we need to store them on a external file. The first NAND sector is not enough.
  • Begin working on Xi menus on folders.
The interface hook is there, now we just need to deal with the DB. It scares me.
  • Increased read/write disk buffers. It will probably bring better performance.
  • Compiler optimizations. DEBUG symbols are no longer defined. Faster code.

Known Bugs:

  • The actual MyFi freq could not match the one on the interface.
  • Backpack swap does no longer work. It errors when restoring the flash unit.
Maybe it is just my Neuros, but i bet it has something to do with that buffer thing related above.
I'll investigate it later. Debugging this brick is a pain.

Version 2.26.0.3.garbage

Tue Oct 5 11:12:53 2004 UTC

Download link:
woid.hex

What's new:

  • Bugzilla #251 (30 secs. MyFi after shutdown). Works for me.
  • Tried to workaround MyFi limitations. No luck at all.
  • Messing with FM reception granularity turns out we have 6 channels for 100kHz. Non-divisible.
  • Holding BACK or SELECT while listening to radio takes you to the lower/upper limit of REAL FM band.
  • Some fixes and improvements on the behaviour of the backlight.
  • Improved scrolling on menu list items.
  • Updated top frequency of the FM tuner in the algorithm which calculates the actual channel. It was capped to 107.9, the limit is 220.0 now, that matches the interface.

Known Bugs:

  • I can't make MyFi granularity 0.1Mhz.
Michael Gao, are you there? Europe's calling!

  • Bugzilla #259 (Highlight Artist/Album). User configurable on XTRA interface.
  • CHANGELOG.txt and HOWTO.txt are now on CVS.

I'm not planning to correct this one, as it is a feature.
Changes are applied on plug/unplug events.
  • Working on annoying Bugzilla #297.
I'll try to fix it, if it is not located on binary libs.

(Did i commit this one yet?)
  • Updated CDB machine definition.
  • New files are MPL v1.1 + GPL licensed as stated on header.
  • Maybe some other things that i don't remember right now.
If in doubt, CVS DIFFing is your friend.
  • ... more to come.

  • MyFi and headphones together still not working, i haven't investigated this yet.

Version 2.23.0.3.garbage

Sat Sep 25 05:32:10 2004 UTC

Download link:
woid.hex

What's new:

  • More strings translated or fixed.
  • Even wider FM reception range (0.1 Mhz - 220 Mhz).
    Stupid? Kinda. Fun? Sure!
  • Bugzilla #157
  • Backlit will never stay on when plugging the powercord.
It lits briefly upon plugging, regardless of the timer, and then fades out.
If you want light, hit a button, if you set the backlit timer on, you'll get it.
  • Bugzilla #293
  • Bugzilla #166.
  • Removed WMA support. I don't need it.
  • Several cosmetic fixes & conditional switchs to the code.
  • ... more to come.

Known Bugs:

  • Broader FM reception range
  • FM Reception granularity is now 0.1 Mhz
  • Radio does not mute while scanning.
